8 week baby checks
At around 8 weeks of age, your baby will be invited for a comprehensive health check. This examination is typically carried out by both a GP and a nurse.
During the appointment, we will check your baby’s eyes, heart, hips, and—for boys—the testicles. We’ll also measure their weight, length, and head circumference to monitor healthy development.
Your GP or health visitor will talk with you about your baby’s vaccination schedule, which includes routine immunisations at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks, 12 months, and again before your child starts school.
We’ll also take time to check in with you, discussing how you’re feeling both physically and emotionally since your baby’s birth. Your wellbeing matters too, and we’re here to support you.
Blood Pressure Monitoring
A blood pressure check is a quick and simple way to see whether your blood pressure is within a healthy range.
Blood pressure refers to the force of your blood pushing against the walls of your arteries as it circulates through your body.
Low blood pressure (hypotension) isn’t usually a cause for concern, but in some cases it can lead to symptoms like dizziness and fainting in some people.
High blood pressure (hypertension), on the other hand, can significantly increase your risk of serious health conditions such as heart attacks and strokes if left untreated.
Regular monitoring helps us detect any issues early and provide the appropriate care to keep you healthy.
Cervical Screening
Cervical screening (also known as a smear test) is a routine test designed to check the health of the cervix and help prevent cervical cancer.
This important screening is offered to women and people with a cervix between the ages of 25 and 64. It helps detect changes early, before they become serious, so that treatment can be more effective if needed.
Regular screening is one of the best ways to protect yourself against cervical cancer.
Cholesterol Counselling
We offer personalised advice and guidance to help you manage your cholesterol effectively.
This may include lifestyle recommendations, dietary changes, and if necessary prescribing medication to help reduce your risk of heart disease and other related conditions.
Our goal is to support you in making informed, sustainable choices for better long-term health.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Reviews
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name for a group of lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties.
COPD refers to a group of lung conditions that cause difficulty with breathing. The main types include:
- Emphysema : damage to the air sacs in the lungs
- Chronic Bronchitis : long-term inflammation of the airways
COPD is a common condition, primarily affecting middle-aged and older adults who smoke. Many people may have COPD without realizing it.
Symptoms usually worsen gradually over time and can limit daily activities. However, with proper treatment and management, the condition can be controlled to improve quality of life.
We offer annual reviews to monitor your condition, but please contact us sooner if you notice your symptoms worsening.
Diabetic Reviews
Diabetes is a condition where a person’s blood sugar level becomes too high.
There are 2 main types of diabetes:
- Type 1 Diabetes : a lifelong condition where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin
- Type 2 Diabetes : occurs when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin or the cells don’t respond properly to insulin
Type 2 diabetes is much more common, accounting for over 90% of all diabetes cases among adults in the UK.
We offer annual diabetes reviews to help manage your condition effectively. Before your appointment, we’ll arrange a blood test and urine test to ensure the review is thorough and tailored to your needs.
Family Planning / Contraception
Our family planning clinic offers comprehensive information and support to help you make informed decisions about having children, whether you’re planning to have none, some, or just want guidance on the best timing for starting a family.
If you’re interested, we also provide contraception counselling to help you explore the options available and choose the method that suits your needs and lifestyle.
Our goal is to support you in making confident, personalised choices about your reproductive health.
First Contact Physiotherapist
Our First Contact Practitioners (FCPs) are specialist physiotherapists with extensive experience in assessing and managing bone, joint, and muscle problems.
Instead of waiting to see a GP first, you can book directly with an FCP, ensuring you get the right care at the right time.
What to Expect
- 20-minute appointments (telephone or face-to-face)
- A full assessment of your symptoms
- Expert advice and guidance on managing your condition
- Exercise plans and self-management strategies tailored to you
- Referral for tests (such as X-rays or bloods) or onward to specialist services if needed
FCP appointments are not for “hands-on” treatment, but most musculoskeletal problems can be effectively managed with advice and exercises that support recovery and long-term self-care.
Common MSK Conditions
Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions affect more than 20 million people in the UK. While aches and pains are common, they can often be treated at home without needing a GP or hospital visit.
Self-care guides are available to help you manage:
- Neck pain

- Back pain
- Elbow pain
- Hand pain
- Hip pain
- Knee pain
- Foot & ankle pain
National studies show that after seeing an FCP, only 5% of patients need to see a GP, and 96% would recommend the service to friends and family.
📌 This information is also available in our poster, which you can view here.
If you are experiencing bone, joint, or muscle pain, please speak to our reception team to book an appointment with our FCP.
Joint Injections
Hydrocortisone injections, also known as corticosteroid injections, are used to relieve pain and reduce swelling in joints or muscles. These injections can be especially helpful if you’re experiencing pain following an injury.
They’re also used to treat painful tendons and bursitis (a condition where the fluid-filled sacs that cushion your joints become inflamed).
Mental Health Reviews
